Die HMDK Stuttgart wurde 1857 gegründet und ist damit die älteste und mit derzeit ungefähr 800 Studierenden auch die größte Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Baden-Württemberg. Als Teil der Stuttgarter Kulturmeile ist sie nicht nur als Hochschule, sondern auch als Konzertveranstalter und kulturelles Zentrum für Stuttgart und die Region von großer Bedeutung. Die Hochschule ist organisatorisch in vier Fakultäten, elf Institute und fünf Studios gegliedert.

Founded in 1857, the State University of Music and the Performing Arts Stuttgart is the oldest and, with almost 800 students, the biggest University of Music in Baden-Württemberg. Located along Stuttgart’s “Culture Mile,” the university is very important to Stuttgart and the surrounding region, not only as a university but also as a center for culture and as a concert promoter. The university is made up of four faculties, eleven institutes and five studios.
