The American people have a unique and very special partnership with the people of the state of Baden-Württemberg and the city of Stuttgart. Over the decades, our relationship has thrived on the personal experiences of soldiers and their families, business people, students, researchers, scientists, artists, writers, and journalists – on both sides of the Atlantic. The American Days festival celebrates both the history and the future we share.
Once again, the Deutsch-Amerikanisches Zentrum / James-F.-Byrnes Institut Stuttgart has been a driving force in organizing and coordinating the festival. Since the establishment of the first German-American friendship clubs in the American Zone in the early postwar years, institutions like the Byrnes Institute have been places where we have been able to meet and learn from each other. On behalf of the Embassy and our U.S. Consulate General in Frankfurt, I would like to thank the state of Baden-Württemberg for its ongoing support of the German-American Institutes – in Stuttgart, as well as Freiburg, Heidelberg, and Tübingen. In all four of these cities, the institutes are dynamic and creative platforms for German-American collaboration on the issues that matter to all of us. They are symbolic of the sincere and open hospitality that so many German cities and towns have shown to Americans over the years. Thank you.
May this, the 10-year anniversary of the American Days festival, be not only a celebration of our partnership, but also an opportunity to explore new, innovative ways to further the interests of peace and prosperity at home and around the world.
